"Kyo Uchiwa" is a traditional Kyoto craft that Shiomi Uchiwa has been making since 1944. It is made using the traditional method of inserting the handle into the fan surface. The extremely flat fan surface makes it possible to use techniques such as drawing, printmaking, hand dyeing, and hand carving to create a wide variety of motifs, including people, landscapes, haiku, and waka poetry.
