Shiomi Uchiwa has been making Kyoto Uchiwa fans since 1944, a traditional Kyoto craft. They are made using the traditional method of inserting the handle into the fan surface. The fans are attractive for their diverse motifs, including people, landscapes, haiku, and waka poetry, all of which are made possible by techniques such as drawing, printmaking, hand-dyeing, and hand-carving, which make it possible to create an extremely flat fan surface.
Kyoto fans are made from natural materials and do not use electricity to beat the heat, making them eco-friendly and LOHAS-friendly. Cooling down with the soft, natural breeze calms the mind... They're actually the perfect item for modern times.
