Carved from moso bamboo grown in Kagawa Prefecture, the “Sanuki Pentagonal Bamboo Chopsticks” showcase the warmth of natural materials and the refined craftsmanship of skilled artisans.
The handle features a standard pentagonal shape that fits comfortably in the hand and gently conforms to the fingers.
In Japanese, “pentagon” (gokaku) is a homonym for “success” (gōkaku), making these chopsticks a popular good luck charm—perfect as a gift for occasions like school admissions or job celebrations.
The surface is finished with natural lacquer, which grows more vibrant with use. Lacquer also has antibacterial properties, making these chopsticks ideal for tableware. Each pair is carefully handcrafted by artisans.
In the past, bamboo was commonly used to make baskets, containers, and other everyday tools. Today, however, its usage has become more limited.
Because bamboo grows quickly and spreads easily, unmanaged bamboo groves have become an environmental issue in many regions.
These chopsticks, made with respect for the natural resources and traditions of Kagawa, help promote a more sustainable lifestyle by making good use of local bamboo.
An excellent choice for daily use or as a heartfelt, meaningful gift.
