Notices

This slightly deeper bowl features a comfortable shape, combining sharp square edges with soft, rounded lines.

Inspired by Kagawa Prefecture’s local specialties—Sanuki Udon, Ibuki Island dried sardines, and Shodoshima olives—each bowl is vibrantly decorated with colorful lacquer, adding a cheerful touch to both your dining table and kitchen shelves. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted by skilled artisans.

Traditional lacquerware typically features black, vermilion, and brown tones. However, at Nakata Urushiki, we use colored lacquer (iro-urushi), enabling rich color expressions such as soft greens, refreshing blues, and warm yellows.

These modern hues have captured the attention of younger generations and design-conscious individuals, redefining lacquerware from an old-fashioned craft to a contemporary and user-friendly item.

Natural lacquer becomes even more vibrant with use, and its antibacterial properties make it ideal for use as tableware.

The joyful atmosphere, calming presence, and unique luster that slowly emerges from within the lacquer enhance the dining experience.

This is a piece not only perfect for everyday use but also highly recommended as a thoughtful and refined gift.

Nakata Shikki

Kagawa Prefecture

Nakata Lacquerware, which produces Kagawa lacquerware, is a long-established workshop that not only applies lacquer, but also produces the entire product from the wood base up, and creates products with a unique approach called "ishiji-nuri," in which stone powder is applied to the surface. It is a product development that combines traditional techniques that have been handed down in this area for generations with new technology.
